Asean MPs Pushing For Myanmar To Be On KL Summit Agenda

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 (Bernama)—Asean lawmakers are working hard to get the “Myanmar situation” on the agenda of the 11th Asean Summit here next week.

At the very least, they want the issue to be on the informal agenda when leaders of the 10-member regional grouping gather at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Dec 12 to 14. (more…)

Barisan’s chameleon MPs

Some people like to describe politicians as people who cannot be trusted as they change according to circumstances. I think it’s very true sometimes. It is particularly true of BN MPs in the Squatgate scandal.

I remember clearly that when I first showed the visual clips on my computer to the BN MPs and ministers like Nazri and Azmi Khalid during lunch break at the MPs’ lounge, both Nazri and Azmi Khalid, the in the presence of the media, immediately, consciously, strongly criticised the manner the police meted out punishment as shown in the clip. The BN reps were quite appalled by what they saw. They viewed it again and again. After watching, they shoke their heads, they expressed shock and regret, and they reprimanded the police for the abuses that were happening in the police lock-ups. They even invited every MP who walked into the lounge to have a look at the visual clip. (more…)

“Apa lagi lah, Seputeh?”

Life has been sooooo busy in the last few days. I spent last Friday and Saturday attending the international conference on Good Governance, Democracy and ASEAN organised by ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC) at the Prince Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. I am the secretary of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus and we have worked very hard to make sure that international conference can be succeeded.

After the conference, I dragged my tired, fast-aging body to attend another series of meetings on Saturday and Sunday. (more…)
