I’ll seek to cut IGP’s salary
Tuesday, 29-11-2005My emergency motion according to the Standing Order of 18(1) was rejected by the speaker Tan Sri Ramli Ngah on the ground that the issue is no more urgent as the PM has set up an independent body to investigate the complaint of the four Chinese nationals over their detention in the police lock-up.
I don’t agree with his view as I think that we MPs should be independent from the decision of the Executive.
We, as lawmakers, should express concern and debate over the complaint of the four, the MMS clip and series of abuses which are still happening in the police station, as the misconduct of police has tarnished the image of police force and the country. It certainly would have affected bi-lateral relations between Malaysia and China eventhough diplomatic protocols prevented public dispute..
Now I will present a motion to cut the IGP’s salary by Rm10 during the debate on the Ministry of Internal Security, which will probably be held on Thursday afternoon or next Monday.

Sekian, terima kasih.

YB Teresa Kok
Ahli Parlimen Seputeh
I’m very disappointed over the government’s handling of the scandal. The government is just too powerful to allow check and balance. The opposition is fighting an uphill battle…I think academics, NGOs, lawyers, sociologists, students and religious groups should speak up. We need to be heard.

Well, let me guess what will happen next
1)all newspaper will be ordered to minimize the coverage
2) An investigation report to state that there is nothing wrong with current procedure and current incident is due to individual behavior of some evil policeman—> this will clear police name and keep everyone happy. The “tudung lady” and ‘camera man” will be sacrified and get tranfer.
3) Then, newspapers will divert all out attention to another issue
4)Everyone forget about this incident and happy to debate around the new issue.
5) Same thing happen again X years later, then GOTO 1)

Teresa, do you agree this country is in utter disarray. It has completely lost its focus and direction.Ministers don’t seem to respect the Prime Minister, who himself is in a state of confusion. Proton, MAS, Bank Islam have lost millions of rinngit as more money evaporates from our coffers. University standards are nose diving. Corruption is rampant. Courts are inundated with backlogs. Judges take ages to deliver written judgments. Rehabilitation centres are unable to accommodate drug addicts. AID/HIV is on the rise.
Accidents are on the rise. Crimes on the rise, with many remaining unsolved as police are more interested in the ogliing at the female pubic hair. Detainees are dying in the lock ups.
Police abuse is considered standard practice.
A secular state is transforming into an Islamic state.
Need I go on!

Dear YB Teresa,
I truly agree with the comment made by Tony. Our No.1 man who is suppose to be the most powerful man in the country is powerless.Nobody listen to him.Even his own minister contradict his view.First we have the DIGP going after the whistle blower, then he defended the strip search and ear squatting as a polce standard procedure. The whole is laughing at us.The one in power is so arrogant.Do you know that the road widening project at Jalan Kuchai Lama, the Seputeh constituency have to stop because the Umno Seputeh building refuse to budge even though they are occupying illegally on the road reserve. If the bulding is occupied by squatters,I guess it has already been bulldozed. This clearly show that even DBKL do not have the power to ask Umno to leave the building.
Something wrong is really happening in our country. We have a minister who said is allright to have a highway 6 feet away from the house.
And now Proton,MAS,Bank Islam are all in deep shit. There is nothing to shout at our recent Budget. No stimulus to drive the economy. Please save our country.

Dear Teresa,
The speaker gave a reason that shows he can’t separate the ‘executive’ from the ‘legislative’, but then why would he, when our ‘judiciary’ at times make us wonder about the separation of powers in a democracy.
It’s the old Malaysian culture of ‘Abang knows best’ and unfortunately many Malaysians subscribe to this, and we wonder why democratic practice has difficulty taking hold here.
But you are doing good so keep it up. Don’t forget to take some Chinese herbal soup to keep your strength and energy up
