It’s been such a busy day

Friday, 25-11-2005

Today is a very busy day for me. My mobile phone has been ringing non-stop since morning. I had to re-charge the battery twice in the afternoon.

Many journalists called and asked for the MMS visual but I was reluctant to give to them as I do not think it’s wise to court unnecessary trouble and give the authorities an excuse to take action against me. I’m not that blonde, you know? :-)

I was unable to answer many of the calls as I was rushing to write my request to the Speaker to ask for an emergency motion in Parliament next Monday. Many people are very happy to see the misconduct of police being exposed.

After I have finished writing the emergency motion request letter, I went with our DAP leaders’ delegation to present memorandum to IGP at the entrance of Bukit Aman. The entrance of Bukit Aman was packed with reporters. The delegation was led by Secretary General Lim Guan Eng. The decision to present the memo and press conference was made last night when some journalists asked us what our next move was. Guan Eng then came out with the idea of presenting memo to Bukit Aman.

After press conference, I presented the emergency motion request letter to Parliament speaker Tan Sri Ramli Ngah. He saw me and he said he is not sure whether the emergency motion will be allowed for debate but even if I have chance to read out the motion, it will be on Tuesday morning as I was late. It requires 48 hours notice according to the standing order of Parliament.

After lunch with my colleagues, I rushed back to write my weekly Sunday column for Sin Chew. My mobile phone in on silent mode and I don’t take any calls from strangers as I don’t want to be distracted while I labour to finish my column and blog.

My piece for Sin Chew is—

  1. Hi YB Kok,
Way to go, the PDRM or rather more like the PRDM, should be put in its place. They have don’t more than enough dehumanising acts against citizens and others.
The rot truly set in after the Anwar debacle, we as a nation appeared to have sold ourselves to the ‘devil’ in not trying to curb all the anti-human rights nonsense perpetrate during that period. Instead of having them stopped by acting, the majority chosed to remain silent, thus appearing to have condone those despicable acts. Those in authorities were returned with an even bigger majority. Indirectly we appeared to be saying “Please to carry on”. As a nation we have since then not been able to lift our heads high.
They say that the rot always starts at the head, till today almost all of those who could have put a stop to the rot by speaking out are still up in charge.
Oh, when will we have sufficient ladies and gentlemen ready to stand and be accounted. You YB, are among one of those few.

Never knew you could joke, i am ‘blondie’ at times, but just this once, i am not taking offence. :)

  2. It is my hope that the emergency motion will be allowed on Monday. The motion is both of public interest and urgent. By the way, with due respect to the Parliament Standing Order, why not in certain circumstance the time for notice cannot be changed to 24 hours. This certain circumstances should be the prerogative of the Speaker. It seems the standing order was tying both the MPs’ and Speaker’s hand as far as an emergency motion is concerned.

It is the time to introduction some flexibility in the standing order. I hope in the future, when an issue crop up at the eleventh hour, this standing order will not be the stumbling block to debate the issue that is both public interest and urgent. At the end of the day, MPs and Parliament are there to serve the public. Therefore, public importance should be the top priority in amending the Parliament Standing Order. We have to move on to better changes for the member of public.

  3. I just hope all you DAP MPs will thump the table in Partliament at the next seating demanding that Parliament be dissolved and call for a fresh election. After all, the BN fellas are doing just that for the coming by-election in Kelantan, why not here? Things are getting messier by the day and goodness sake, where is the Prime Minister? I do not know whether it would be a good idea to send Azmi to China for all you know he might just be “goreng”ed by the officials there and come back “well-done” like a steak. The police are nothing more than thugs in uniform and we have to expect this because of our educational system which has gone to the drains. Now you have these bunch of people with dinosaur-sized brains walking around thinking that they are now all mighty once they dorn on the uniform, just like Superman.

By the way, I like the part in your blog about being “blonde”. It kinda add a little humour to the blog. Keep up the good work and keep them coming.
